We walked a short distance through the Sunnyside neighborhood of Denver to find the Factotum Brewhouse. Despite only strolling a few blocks I was parched and struggling with the sweltering heat. You see, this date did not start off as planned; at the onset, it contained more heavy petting and adult activities than usual. Her house doesn’t have air conditioning and soon we were in need of refreshment of the microbrew type.
We arrived at what looked like a half-abandoned property with some paint on the side. But when we walked in I was pleasantly surprised. It was quaint as fuck. Nice decor, plenty of seating. Blah Blah. See the picture below.
At the bar, I ordered their MZA IPA and that shit was delicious. It had a strong fruit body and it’s what the experts call a Tropical IPA. If you go and like your hops, I recommend you indulge. Normally, I wouldn’t even put the type of beer drank in the post but I was day drinking so it seems more relevant. Also, Factotum Brewing is a collaboration between homebrewers. So, the beers you try were crafted over long weekends with beer nerds and then they serve it to you. That’s an interesting concept to me and made it more appealing to come back.
According to the Almighty Google, Factotum means, “an employee who does all kinds of work.” After I thought about the name for a while I see why this title fits quite well with the brewery’s model. All of the folks who work their craft beer for the brewery and have a stake in the claim. It’s Stalinist in a way, but on a small scale, I think socialism works here. Ha! Those goddamn Commies found a way in! Good for them.
I ordered a stout that I can’t remember the name of because, apparently, gun violence happens in America. My date and I talked at length about the subject in a loud manner that probably made people uncomfortable and I didn’t pay much attention to the aesthetics of the experience afterward. But we are Americans and rambling on about hot topics – that have little or no solution to – is one of those freedoms we have so why not have a tasty beverage and jabber on.
In summary, I would go back to Factotum Brewhouse because I want to try more of their beers, albeit, they were a little expensive and a bit more experimental than I am used to. There was also an overly zealous bartender that clearly liked the brew she brought to tap more than any other. Give the place a shot and if you aren’t madly in love you can walk down to Diebolt Brewery which is exactly what we did.
